Yeti Or Hydro Flask: Which One Is Better?

Hydro and Yeti are the two leading producers of insulated flasks that keep cold drinks cold for 24 hours and hot drinks hot for 6 hours. These work even in triple digit temperatures and are designed like rocks, they don’t break.

People tend to be huge supporters of one or the other but really neither brand is necessarily better or worse. Both produce some outstanding bottles and both have their own qualities that make them great.

Yeti vs Hydro Flask Reviews

1. YETI Rambler 26oz Vacuum Insulated Stainless Steel Bottle with Cap

One of Yetis most popular bottles, you’ll find it hard to find a flask that’s tougher than this one.

What I liked about it

  • Made of 18/8 stainless steel this bottle simply won’t break. It’s built to withstand any conditions you might come across and lives up to its design.
  • The color of the bottle won’t fade either. Again specially made to not peel or crack, this’ll keep its funky look for years.
  • The cap is leak proof to ensure there won’t be any unwanted accidental spillages.
  • Simply put it’s designed to withstand anything. Water can be kept cold in triple figure heats and hot drinks won’t get cold. This is achieved by using a double-wall vacuum insulator that’s right at the edge of modern technology.

Who’s it for?

The adventurer, the truck driver or the sports fan.

Anyone that needs an indestructible flask that’ll keep their drinks at the same temperature can’t go wrong with this bottle from YETI.

It’ll easily survive a smashing in the back of your pickup or being dropped down a mountain and, depending on the drink inside, after you retrieve it the contents will still be refreshingly cool or comfortingly warm.

Some other sweet features

  • Specially designed to fit in any pickups cup holder, it’ll always be right to hand.
  • Comes in a sleek cool black color, that I really like.

2. Hydro Flask Insulated Stainless Steel Wide Mouth 18-Ounce Water Bottle

[amazon fields=”B007CKIEGI” value=”thumb” image_size=”large” image_link=”″ image_class=”ais350″]

Smaller than the YETI’s 26-ounce flask, don’t make the mistake in thinking that just because this bottle is 18 ounces it isn’t a serious adventurers bottle.

At 18 ounces it’s one of Hydro’s smaller bottles and it must be said they’ve done a great job at reducing the size down without losing any of the functionality or quality that they’re bigger bottles have.

What I liked about it

  • Believe it or not, the size! Being 18 ounces is actually incredibly handy. It can fit into any bag bottle holder easily and even fits into my jacket pocket without being too bulky.
  • Constructed with a double wall vacuum insulated stainless steel body there doesn’t exist a bottle which can keep the temperature of liquids more stable than this. Any cold drink will stay cold for 24 hours hot drinks will maintain their temperature for up to 6 hours.
  • What’s really cool about this bottle is the matte coating that covers the exterior of the bottle. This gives it the wicked smooth white look that it has but more importantly also completely stops any sweating that might occur. This means even if you completely fill your bottle with ice the outside will never get wet, you’ll never get a wet bag and you’ll never pick it up to see a puddle that’s been left behind.

Who’s it for?

If you’re often on the move or making short trips this is the one for you. It’s lightweight design and small size makes it incredibly effortless to carry around without adding too much extra weight to your pack.

If you’re going on long hikes a bigger bottle might be a better idea, but for yoga classes, daily commutes, and short walks this is perfect.

Some other sweet features

  • It comes with a lifetime warranty! This really shows just how much Hydro believes in their flasks, their durability, and their quality. I love the peace of mind it brings when buying one of these bottles but further than that I respect a company that has such belief in what they’re selling.
  • Made of 18/8 stainless steel it’s BPA free so you won’t be consuming any of the nasty chemicals that plastic bottles can have in them.

3. YETI Rambler 36oz Vacuum Insulated Stainless Steel Bottle with Cap

Another really special bottle from YETI, this one’s bigger, badder and just as indestructible.

What I liked about it

  • Made from the same durable 18/8 stainless steel as other Yeti insulated tumblers, it doesn’t matter whether you’re paddling through rapids, driving over bumpy roads or being thrown around on a bucking bronco, this won’t break. This kitchen-grade stainless steel is puncture and rust resistant and will last a good long while.
  • Has a no sweat design to stop any condensation forming on the outside of the bottle. So no wet bags and no wet frostbitten fingers.
  • The TripleHaul Cap is 100% leakproof and has great grip making the bottle really easy to keep a hold of.
  • As with all YETI bottles, it leads the way in heat maintenance technology with a double-wall vacuum insulation system that keeps cold drinks cold and hot drinks hot.
  • The mouth opening is wider than most other bottles which makes it really easy to drink or pour from.

Who’s it for?

Those who want the best of the best.

Those who want a decent amount of water on them at all times.

And those that don’t mind paying a bit extra so that they have equipment that is at the forefront of current technological possibilities.

Some other sweet features

  • Importantly it is, of course, free from BPA.
  • With a selection of 7 different colors, you can easily personalize your bottle to look just how you want it. On top of this 4 of the choices are DuraCoat Colors which are designed to be strong. They don’t only look good they also won’t fade, peel or crack and add additional grip to the outside of the bottle, which is pretty cool.
  • Machine washable so no need to spend ages scrubbing the inside of it.

4. Hydro Flask 40 oz Wide Mouth Stainless Steel Flex Cap Water Bottle

[amazon fields=”B01ACARNIO” value=”thumb” image_size=”large” image_link=”″ image_class=”ais350″]

This is a serious, big bottle from Hydro.

It fits easily in most truck or car cup holders and is surprisingly easy to carry in your hand for a bottle so big.

The simple construction of these water bottles is just incredible.

What I liked about it

  • Made with slip-free grip you won’t find yourself accidentally dropping this one. This is achieved through the powder coating that they give it. This also works with specialized premium TempShield insulation to stop condensation forming on the outside of the bottle, keeping the ice on the inside.
  • Built with an easy-access wide mouth, it’s easy to drink from and fits most back country water filters.
  • The insulating properties this has are as good as they get. Using double-walled, vacuum insulated TempShield Insulation whichever drink you have inside will either stay hot for 6 hours or cold for 24.
  • Also made with 18/8 food graded stainless steel that is BPA and toxic free.

Who’s it for?

This is great for family trips or any outdoor activities or adventures.

Its size means you won’t be running of water and it’s built just can’t be beat.

Add that to the fact that you can personalize it to fit your style with a choice of 18 different colors makes it a top choice for anyone looking for an insulated stainless steel water bottle.

Some other cool features

  • Comes with a lifetime warranty so you’ll never have to buy a water bottle again.
  • Hydro flasks have their own charitable giving program called Parks For All. This is a really cool project which I really love, where they’re supporting the development of new green spaces and the maintenance of current public green spaces all over the world. Buying this bottle supports that program which is damn sweet.

So how should you pick the best tumbler?

In the top tumblers on the market, in general, you want to look for durability, functionality, and cost.

Hydro and Yeti tumblers are the most durable and functional tumblers in the world so with these what else is there to look for?

Again three things –

Size, style, and extras.

Yeti flasks come in a variety of sizes from 10 to 36 ounces and they also sell a half gallon and full gallon jug. This means whatever your needs are, big or small, they’ve got you covered.

The flask sizes that Hydro have are less extensive. They do 18, 32, 40, and 64 ounce sized bottles and also a 12-ounce kids ice cool cooler.

Hydro and Yeti flasks are surprisingly similar in design both being made with 18/8 stainless steel and utilizing double wall vacuum insulation technology.

The difference that they do have is in the precise way that their insulation technology works and of course how the bottle actually looks.

Which looks better? I’ll leave that for you to decide.

Both Yeti and Hydro flasks claim that their bottles will keep cold drinks cold for 24 hours and hot drinks hot 6. But which really works better?

It actually seems that these times the companies but on their product are actually very accurate, however, there are reports of Yeti flasks being used as a coffee thermos and keeping the coffee hot for up to 12 hours.

Whichever way you look at it, they’re the two top leading brands in high quality insulated cups, so you can imagine how well they perform.

Yetis list of accessories goes on and on. They have different types of lids, handles, bottle mounts, safe containers, cool pack, bottle openers, lid and straw tops and more and more. They even have Yeti coffee mugs with a handle.

Whatever you need and whichever way you want to personalize your bottle they’ll have it and Yeti accessorize are known to be just as high quality as their bottles.

Hydro doesn’t do quite as many accessorize but they do still have some cool ones. They have a few different types of caps including a Hydro flask wine tumbler top which is wicked for having some wine subtly on the go.

They also do straw lids and their own bottle brush to clean their bottles with.

When it comes to durability it’s hard to rate one of these higher than the other. Both have been designed incredibly well and can take a hell of a beating. No matter what kind of crazy activity you’re into these will probably survive through it.

However, most Hydro bottles come with a lifetime warranty which gives a extra bit of peace of mind. Realistically I really don’t think either would ever break anyway but it’s nice to know that if it does they’ve got your back.

Insulated cup maintenance tips

You shouldn’t put either flask in the freezer or on the stove. It won’t necessarily damage them, but they both have double wall vacuum insulation so the outside temperature doesn’t affect the inside temperature and won’t freeze or boil the liquid inside.

Can you put Yeti cups in dishwasher?

Yes, you can! Incredibly YETI have designed their tumblers so they are safe to wash in a dishwasher.
The bottle can be placed on any level but the lid can only be placed on the top shelf.
Either way, it’s damn nice to just be able to chuck it in there and not have to scrub and clean at the end of a long day.

Can you put a Hydro Flask in the dishwasher?

Unfortunately, no. The heat of the water in the dishwasher damages the insulation that Hydro Flasks use and can discolor the powder that’s used to color the bottles. This means you also shouldn’t soak the flask in hot water as this can also discolor it.

Instead, they must be cleaned by hand with hot water, rinsed and then dried. A bottle brush is best to use with white distilled vinegar for cleaning. If there are any bits which are particularly hard to clean a couple of tablespoons of baking soda mixed with a bit of warm water will create a paste. Rub this into the stain with a bristled brush and the stain should disappear.
