Coffee Tumbler Reviews

1. Homitt Coffee Tumbler

[amazon fields=”B0751D34SL” value=”thumb” image_size=”large” image_link=”″ image_class=”ais350″]

This one is one of our favorite picks, not only due to its high durability but also due to its pretty affordable price tag. It has a powder coat, which gives it a good grip which allows it to avoid slipping out of your hand. This cup, like all of the rest of the ones on this list, is stainless steel and has a plastic lid. The lid is leak-proof, allowing your car floor to stay dry, even if it falls over.

Also, like the others on this list, it is vacuum insulated. This means that a vacuum between two sheets of steel in the cup creates an insulating layer that keeps cold products cold for up to 24 hours, and hot for up to 6 hours. This is great for long car rides

One of the primary concerns that people have with this product is that the handle seems pretty small. It seems to be OK if you have small hands, but if you have large man hands, it might be an issue for some people.

2. Hydro Flask Steel Travel Mug

[amazon fields=”B07MZ6J6TL” value=”thumb” image_size=”large” image_link=”″ image_class=”ais350″]

This is one of the more expensive items on this list, but it is a great container to hold a nice iced latte with. Since it is able to keep liquids iced for up to 24 hours and hot for up to 6, it seems like a great fella to take with you if you are going to be out and about for a while.

The lid for this is made of plastic, but it is spill-resistant nonetheless. Despite its stainless steel exterior, making it a highly durable cup, it also comes with a lifetime warranty, meaning if it breaks, you should be able to get a full refund for it. It holds 22 oz of liquids as well.

This one also does not have a wide mouth, but it is still wide enough to place a straw into. It may become an issue if you want to be able to gulp your drink instead of just sipping it. And also, if you like this, it also comes in a variety of colors. Most people will not care too much about this, but some people want their cup to be their favorite color.

3. Klean Kanteen Stainless Steel Tumbler Cup

[amazon fields=”B01ENNLQNE” value=”thumb” image_size=”large” image_link=”″ image_class=”ais350″]

The Klean Kanteen is not only one of the cheapest products on our list, but it is also the smallest one, holding only 8 oz of liquids. This is what makes it so good for holding an espresso. However, since it is so small, it does not keep beverages hot or cold for as long as the others. It keeps things hot for only about 2 hours and iced for about 10 hours.

Since it is so small as well, it might not fit that well into a typical cup holder. Yet, it will be a great thing to bring with you when you go to a coffee shop, so you do not have to worry about anything disposable. It might not be good for much else besides espresso and cocktails, saying that it does not hold much. So anything you put in it is bound to be gone long before it gets to room temperature.

The lid holds on tight, making this spill and splash resistant as well. Klean Kanteen containers are highly durable due to their steel structure. This means that it will be able to last for a very long time. The mouth of this is pretty wide as well, meaning that you can take some pretty sizable gulps as opposed to just sips.

4. Starbucks 16 oz Steel Tumbler

[amazon fields=”B015AXMRW0″ value=”thumb” image_size=”large” image_link=”″ image_class=”ais350″]

This tumbler is the most expensive product on this list, which isn’t that impressive saying its size and reviews. It is only 16 oz as opposed to many of the other ones on the list, which are 20 oz or more. Many people have complained that the handle was really fragile, and broke when held onto to put on or take off the lid.

The handle itself has a rubber portion of it, which works as a clip. This makes it the best one to just clip on to go camping with, but be careful as it seems doesn’t seem to be as durable. The rest of the cup is pretty durable though, as it is made out of stainless steel.

The bottom of the cup has a rubber grip on it, making it harder to slip and spill. This can make sure that your car does not get sticky when it spills. The lid is made out of plastic but has a wide mouth which is also able to fit a straw into.

5. Steady Doggy 20 oz Coffee Mug

[amazon fields=”B01D3Z2Z60″ value=”thumb” image_size=”large” image_link=”″ image_class=”ais350″]

This is the cheapest of all of the ones on this list and is the best on here for iced coffee. It keeps ice frozen for about 20 hours while keeping things hot for about 10. This helps a ton if you want a delicious iced drink while on the road.

This one has a sleek design allowing it to fit quite readily into standard sized cup holders. It has a plastic lid on it with a slider allowing you to open and close it at will. However, some people have complained that it is too loose, and causes spills while on the road. So be careful not to let it spill, or you will have a nasty mess to clean up.

The lid’s mouth is not very large either, although it is wide enough to fit a standard sized straw. This can make it hard to drink from if you want to take more than sips at a time, but at least the straw feature can make up for that.

One of the other issues that people have with this is its rather large size. Some have complained that it is very wide, which makes it hard to hold, even for larger hands. However, it does have a lifetime warranty, so that might be able to make up for it on the off chance that the cup breaks.

What Makes a Great Coffee Tumbler?

When it comes to having a coffee cup there are certain things that we need to look at to make sure that it is fairly good quality. You would not want to buy something to find out that it was cheaply made, do you? Me neither. So always make sure that you are keeping an eye on at least some of these important factors.

One of the worst things that you want to happen when you get one of these is to find out that it sprung a leak. Now, these usually happen near the lid, as some of them do not secure properly, causing it to not be able to secure the liquids inside. This can result in a pretty sticky situation, so make sure you watch out for this.

Now not a lot of us are big coffee drinkers, so we are not going to need something which is all that big. However, if you are on a long road trip, or going to be out and about for awhile, it might behoove you to get one of a larger size. If you are trying to buy a product that keeps your beverage hot or cold for hours at a time, it might be best to get a cup that won’t be empty in a hot minute.

What It Is Best at Holding (Iced vs Hot)

Some cups may be made out of plastic, and as a result might not be the best at holding hot beverages. While others might not be very well prepared to hold colder drinks. So make sure to keep that in mind.

There are many designs that these can have, from the standard design to odd ones like the Tesla tumbler. The design of it also helps it to be able to fit in a standard cup holder, and not have it be too big.

Ease of Drinking From

Sometimes, drinking itself can be hard if the glass that you are using is made oddly. So make sure that you are looking for a lid with a wide mouth if you want to drink more than just sips of your coffee or tea.

How Easy Is It to Clean?

While most are as easy to clean as a regular cup, some others have small lids, meaning that you have to use special equipment in order to even clean your own product. So try to find something that looks like your regular glass, that way you can stick your hand into it and clean it out rather easily.

Durability (Stainless Steel, Ceramic, or Plastic)

When it comes to spending a fair amount of money on anything, you are going to want to make sure that it does not break soon after you buy it. As a result, stainless steel would be your best bet for the highest durability. This is because plastic can crack and ceramic can shatter if dropped.

Not to say that the latter two options are bad, or even easy to break, but stainless steel is always the way to go for the best durability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I put my tumbler in the microwave?

Unless it is made out of ceramic, I highly recommend against putting any of these in the microwave. Plastic can leach chemicals or melt if placed in the microwave. Even ceramic products can get extremely hot if put in the microwave. So be careful and use your own discretion.

Does it contain BPA?

None of the ones made out of steel or ceramic should contain BPA. Most companies that use plastic have chosen to use plastic that has no BPA, but unless they show it on their site, you might be taking a gamble.

Can it be recycled?

Most of these cannot be recycled for various reasons. While you might be able to find an organization that focuses on recycling things like water bottles, for the most part, you will be out of luck. Even the plastic ones are often made out of a plastic that is really hard to recycle.

However, not all is lost. You should be able to donate these guys to a thrift store, that way someone else can get a better use out of it.

Are they dishwasher safe?

When it comes to any similar products or tumbers, I would not put any of them in the dishwasher, just to be safe. Even if they claim to be dishwasher safe, some of the paint or insulation (depending on which you buy) can become damaged. So wash by hand just to make sure.

What size will fit in a standard car cup holder?

All of the ones mentioned will fit in a standard cup holder. However, be careful about getting ones of a larger size.

Can I put a straw in it?

Yes, but try to make sure that it is a metal straw, or a dense straw, to make sure that it does not melt when it gets into contact with your hot beverage. This is especially true with wide mouth cups.

Do these have a metallic taste?

The one ones that this should be an issue with is with the metal ones. Now while most of them prevent rusting, depending on the cup you get, there is always a chance of getting a metallic taste. None of the ones I have mentioned have such complaints.

Final Thoughts

Many of these cups were pretty nifty, and I really liked the Homitt and the Hydro Flask. They were reasonably priced as well as very durable and well made for what they were. While I also think that the Klean Kanteen may have some uses, I think the very small size might put some people off. The good thing is that they come in a wide variety of sizes, so you can choose to your liking.

The Starbucks mug was one that I had the biggest issues with. It has some good things going for it, but it might not be worth it for the price. Mainly due to the fact that it does not seem to work as well as some of the other, far cheaper ones on this list. That is not saying that it is a bad tumbler by any means though.

When trying to find a good tumbler, finding one that not only suits your lifestyle but also is durable and useful enough to get the most out of. You want to make sure that every dollar you spend is a dollar well spent. So consider some of these options if you are looking for a good tumbler to use.
